Magic Nearly Killed Me!

Yes, you read that right and you won’t believe what I’m about to tell you! This story is 100% true and it happened during the pandemic lockdown. I was avidly creating new video content to post online as a new avenue of magic (I had to be creative as venues and events were cancelled). After sometime of producing daily videos, I had to keep things fresh by coming up with new ideas for video ideas. I’d been writing lots of different ideas out, then I had a thought… how cool would it be if I could turn a small bottle of gin into a bigger bottle (I think most of us would’ve like to learn this in lockdown).

We had a small bottle of gin (the mini type that you’d find on an aeroplane), and we had a big bottle of gin too. The only problem was that we had already finished the bigger bottle of gin, and I didn’t feel the effect would be as strong if I just made an empty bottle bigger. Therefore, I had to work out a method to fill the big bottle of pink gin with a fake gin. I mixed cranberry juice, flat lemonade, water, colouring, and various other drinks and liquids that we had lying around in the cupboards.

After playing with lots of ideas and eventually getting the right colour for the liquid, I filled the bottle up and it looked perfect. But, it was now too late to film the video and so it went onto the video to-do-list. The next day I started another project, and pushed back the unlimited gin video, and the same thing kept happening. Because I had loads of creativity flowing, I kept making more ideas and posting other videos. However in this period, what I didn’t realise was this ‘fake gin’ was brewing into some form of bomb!

Picture the scene, the big glass bottle of ‘fake gin’ was sat on the side in my bedroom and I was in bed sleeping minding my own business. The alarm goes off and I jump straight out of bed to get in the shower, and before I’ve even stepped into the shower I hear a massive BANG! which sounded like a car had just crashed into my bedroom (no exaggeration). I sprint back into my bedroom to find a shelving unit dripping with fake coloured gin, and shards of glass embedded into my walls, ceiling, carpet and pillow! There was a sharp piece of glass around 6 inches long embedded into my pillow with only 2 inches sticking out!

There was glass everywhere, and I’m not talking small pieces - I’m talking sharp shards that were sticking out of my walls like some mosaic museum. Therefore, for those that say magic isn’t dangerous, maybe think twice before trying to make unlimited alcohol! Needless to say, I drank the small bottle and carried on being a magician collecting random objects and creating crazy inventions!
